The new government of Péter Magyar has made two things its priority: opening the energy market to foreign capital and bringing Hungary’s Russia policy into line with Western orthodoxy
In all fairness to the EU, NATO depends on a country currently being RULED - not governed by - a demented old man with a long history of psychoses. Put simply, when the US president whines about a lack of EU investment in its own defense, personally insults the leaders of every NATO nation (which he has tariffed), says he might not come to the rescue of Europe because they did not rescue America from his lunatic self-imposed war in Iran, and provides unreliable military support for Ukraine, which was invaded by Trump's old pal Vlad Putin, whose oligarchs have been secretly (well not since the Herrhausen assassination) supporting the Trump business for decades in exchange for doing their economic laundry, that makes defense a pending major concern for the EU.
Then add to that Putin's snarks about invading old USSR nations like E. Germany and other border countries (while still in Ukraine), and occasionally landing a battle drone in Poland and a few other nations, plus random sabotage in various EU nations, and you have a pending invasion to be concerned about. Keep in mind that Europe's nations dithered while a guy named Hitler did similar mischief. So, if I were you, I would cut the EU leadership a little slack.
Thanks as always for the reporting that nobody else does!
Also as always, I wish you would go the obvious step toward explaining what's really going on not just in Hungary but globally. You state: "it wants to free the Hungarian legal system as soon as possible from any regulations that would even minimally restrict the activities of international companies in the Hungarian economy."
Clearly, it is not the Commission that is in charge, it is the corporations on whose behalf all governments, globalist governance bodies, and military/intelligence alliances are now operating.
We in Hungary (like many peoples) are between a rock and a hard place. Orbán's monsters (Mészáros, the richest billionaire moron is simply Orbán's stooge) and generic international monsters.
While the gist of your article is true, there are many overlooked details. The energy subsidy keeps an extremely wasteful structure from changing. And a large part of 'green' energy comes from butchered forests. Psychos are usually resisted by -- another group of psychos.
What's true is that the West interfered with the election in a major way.
The piece opens with a supposedly damning statement about the free-market policies adopted by Poland and Hungary after the collapse of the Soviet bloc. He let the reader understand that Hungary subsequently changed course, namely, to avoid ‘colonisation’, particularly under Orban, whose precious legacy would be now being destroyed by the new Hungarian government. He omits to let the reader know - perhaps he ignores himself - the results of the experiment: in 1989 Hungary’s GDP per capita was about two times higher than Poland; by 2025 Poland had overtaken Hungary.
The eu leadership has no priority whatsoever other than The War On Russia.
What does anyone propose to do about it?

The same sniveling europeans that call Trump "daddy" a nd grovel like dogs seeking treats.
European strategy since 1917 has been to get someone else (usually Americans) to do their fighting for them.
