After willingly sacrificing their own interests on the altar of US hegemony, euro leaders are now posturing as the last defenders of the very policies that rendered them irrelevant in the first place
Tom, this is a brilliant concise assessment of a duped organization’s automatic reaction to this self realization. Indeed, we’ll show ‘em, we will just dig this hole deeper. The trick here is to somehow have them disregard vanity and think about humanity. It certainly won’t come from the European media.
They have no choice no matter what. They've been rabidly pro-war for years and turning 180 degrees would not only expose the true belligerent nature of their stance, but also would make them responsible for the economic disaster thereby caused and, much more importantly, the needless killing of both Ukrainians (especially those) and Russians and destruction of Ukraine.
They cannot but double down. It's up to the people to flush these effers down the drain!
These idiots jump up and down about the far right, but cancel inconvenient elections and get into bed with people in Ukraine who are way to the right of Vlad the Impaler. And they're PNAC level warmongering psychos as well, and clearly don't give a shit about the plummeting standard of living and abject poverty for many. What they'll do without the USA's billions remains to be seen. Starmer, Scholz and Macron are likely to lose to right wing parties when elections come - they're really not very smart, unless they plan to go full bore authoritarian, which wouldn't surprise.
"After willingly sacrificing their own interests on the altar of US hegemony, they are now posturing as the last defenders of the very policies that rendered them irrelevant in the first place."
I've never came across truer, more succinct or more damning description of EU leaders and their "leadership" for past 35 or so years.
Worst part? There's no real opposition, at least there's no true progressive European leader with enough clout to be a balancing "counter weight". The only saving grace, if one can call it that at all, is economic stagnation of EU - there's simply no money to fuel warmongers. Although, their arrogance might compel war hawks to take money for essential services away from their citizens - which, I think, would be the end of their reign.

As always — pity, Compact is paywalled.
How can I manage my account ? It tells me I can’t change it within app? Is there a web link?
Not sure I understand the question.
You have to do it on the Substack website Doug. You can’t update subscriptions on the app.
