Trump’s tariffs should be seen as an opportunity for Europeans to finally confront the deep flaws of the EU’s export-led economic model — a reckoning that is long overdue
Indeed, no scenario coming out from the ill-minded eurocrats has the least chance to bring anything positive for PEOPLE of Europe. Their only goal is to go back to Middle Ages and serfdom to ensure ongoing profits for the few - while clinging to an economic doxa that is -hopefully- about to burst into pieces...
(just saying : using the words ”fair” or ”unfair” while talking international trade makes me laugh... )
No country is an isle. I love my Italian olive oil and Cheeses and spaghetti products and cold cuts. Many folks like the German car brands truck brands bus brands. If the USA wants to compete in the above businesses and others they should " go for it and stop winning. Same for the EU.
PS Italy: stop funding the genocide to the Palestinian people....you too EU. You too USA
why the eu goes along with the usa's agenda on everything, especially with regard to china and russia - boggles the mind... it is like europe is determined to point the gun at it's own feet as opposed to doing something positive for itself... thanks for the article...
Interesting but wrong the ISA has never much like free trade when it doesn’t suit. If the EU wanted to completely get crushed by a race to the bottom that’s fine (oh wait) it doesn’t…? It kinda wants to keep key industries (cars, steel manufacturers, farming, banking) going whilst lessening competition from the worlds superpower (that susbsisides its industries with 10s if not hundreds of billions of dollars of public money) Why would Italy or France or even Germany do a deal with America alone ? (25 trillions VRs 4.5-5 trillions GDP) VRs 20 trillion one of those will get better deal than the other (that’s the idea)
Isn't it the case that although there is a trade imbalance in favor of the EU when it comes to goods, in terms of services, the imbalance favors the US? What is the difference if you look at goods AND services together?
It seems there are 2 roads to the new world order. An entirely globalist one where China was 'winning', and a more regional and decoupled one. The advantage of the latter would be that it entertains the likelihood of more kinetic wars.
Interesting that for once the author dismisses his own recurrent phantasy of dismantling the EU and having each country deal with the US, China in isolation.

The EU is main obstacle preventing individual countries from "dealing" with anything.
reality will catch up to the european union at some point.. it ain't working and that is very obvious for all to see...
