“Green” policies are simply the latest cover to pursue a specific agri-food model: an increasingly centralised, concentrated, globalised model centred around a few mega-farms.
Maybe…..”the age-old rule that we are many and they are few”….. but this unrelenting march of neoliberalism seems unstoppable. Thank you, Thomas, for your reporting!
My dad was a farmer in rural Staffordshire, and growing up in a village community of winding lanes shaded by huge trees, looking over small fields of grazing cattle felt truly idyllic. All of this definitely resonates with me - the misguided EU policies are deeply unjust and counterproductive - but Thomas’ reminder that we are undermining and eroding an entire way of life touched me most of all. Country people, their wisdom, their respect for animals and the natural world, is far more valuable than petty rules and large scale production. I sound sentimental perhaps, but this is what I know and I don’t believe I’m alone. Thank you, Thomas.
