Oh Mr. Fazi. I generally appreciate your well informed articles, but here, due to some inherent biases, you are falling short.
You are acusing the head of state, etc of having Romanian citizenship. Heck, half the population in R of Moldova have Romanian citizenship. Likely the villagers and the oldies, who wouldn't see themselves travelling and have no forseable need of a Romanian passport, did not apply and did not receive said passport.
And why do you think is the case?
Also, evry one keeps talking of Moldova, Moldova, Moldova, but never considers the bigger Moldova, one of the three big Romanian zones, which has over 7+ million people, almost double the population of R of Moldova at its peak.
There is no cultural, linguistic differences between Moldovans left of Prut compared to those right of Prut.
In 1812, after some war btw Russia and the Ottomans, Russia was angling to get the entire province of Moldova under its wings, something that wasn't the Ottomans to give, since Moldova, like Wallachia, were never incorporated in the Ottoman Empire. They were vassal, yes, but with their own laws, administration, and rulers. There was no pasa and no moque on these two principalities.
The Russians have bought a Greek Dragoman from Phanar (a stupid Ottoman tradition to use the services of a ghiaur under Ottoman/Muslim rule when dealing with other ghiaurs in negotiations) that was leding the negotiations with the Russians, and kept secret the fact that Napoleon was on the way to attack Russia, which would have changed the direction anon negotiations and give leverage to the Ottomans. So the Russians, being hurried, ultimately went away with a bit less than half of the principality of Moldova, the part between Dniester and Prut.
A hundred years later, that part rejoined their Moldovan brethern, now part of Moldova, but it didn't last. Due to Ribbentrop-Molotov ("Non-Agression Treaty"), Stalin had the free hand to take that part "back". It took more. This is why Romania joined Germany in 1941, to retake its stolen territory.
And maybe this is why Romania is quietly such a good vassal now, since it has something seriously to gain, getting back that piece of land. It was taken by force and by treachery, what is that compared with some stuffed ballots?!
Today, there are three nations split: China and Koreas due to Americans and romania due to Russia.
Yes, Romania is corrupt, with petty and pigmy politicians who are self-interested, and that the brainwashing the Soviets and then Russians continued to apply on Moldovan peasantry was always over the top, trying to convince them that they are different in history, culture, and language from their Moldovan brethren from across River Prut. Despite the fact that the statues of Stephen the Great and Mihai Eminescu were tall in both Iasi, Suceava, and Chisinau...
But Romanians are even more conservative than Russians, with a deeper orthodox beleief than the Russian. 97% believe in God... Ceausescu burried his mom with 7 priests... Same sex marriage is still not legal in Romania, despite the great pressure exercised on them. Russia has no right to talk about values here. It is in the wrong, has been in the wrong, and given the propensity, it will be in the wrong when it comes to Romanians.
Thus, you might want to revisit your analysis. Also, the rights of minorities are very well respected in Romania. There is no teritorial autonomie, the state being "unitary" but there is more than enough local autonomy. And there is a very strong Hungarian party in Romania. And check it out, the president is a pure ethnic German.
Romanian citizenship is not for travelling; Moldavians need it in order to get the possibility to go to rich European countries and wipe butts, clean up trash, dirt and do the dirtiest jobs there.
Not all. I have met "Moldovans" from east of river Prut in Romania, last one a lady acting as translator for a family of well of Ukrainian refugees, doing legal some paperwork in my home town.
As for wiping butss, ceaning trash, picking vegetables, etc, there are a lot of Romanians in the western Europe doing those jobs as well. So the Moldavians east of river Prut wouldn't be any different from the rest of Romanians in this respect.
And I would challenge any Moldovan east of river Prut to cross the river and see the moldavians west of Prut and say they are different in any way, shape, or form.
Well, Ceausescu was maybe not the best socialist, but things functioned much better in pre-Cold War Romania than after. And who was behind the killing of Ceausescu?
After the Cold War, Romania lost its relative welfare society and neutrality, the state and some of its citizens got increasingly criminalised and especially the Romanian elite became a lackey of the USA and Nato.
So it is on that background one must understand how Sandu and the rest of the elite govern Moldova on behalf of the USA and the EU.
This is all understood. Romanian elites can be excellent lackeys (as long as they are allowed to exploit their subjects). A 100+ years of vessalage to the Ottomas showed the character.
But it is not much different than the changes that happened after 2003 in EU. After most of EU countries (including Canada) refused to join US war in Iraq and condemned it, US started an aggressive covert action of undermining, proping up, grooming, blackmailing, buying, subverting, existing and upcoming elites and we got where we are, with Macrons, Scholz, baerbocks, Freelands, etc of today. This was recently confirmed to me by Col Wilkerson in an interview he had, and was something I long suspected.
Terrific informative article. V useful for those who have no background, thanks, at a critical moment.
Thank you, Thomas. I seriously cannot see how this latest iteration of the so-called ‘liberalism’ can change…..
someone sharing a few articles on Maria Sandu - was diagnosed in 2021 by Austrian clinic as suffering schizophrenia.
